Caravan Contents Insurance
If you own a caravan then you could well have expensive items on board, including things like TVs, computers, DVD players and expensive jewellery. You probably won’t keep all of these items on board when you’re not there but some will be permanent fixtures, and either way it’s important to consider caravan contents insurance to protect your possessions from any damage, theft or vandalism that could occur.
There’s no hard and fast rule when it comes to contents insurance for your caravan, and individual insurers tend to offer different levels of protection complete with different rules and exclusions (likewise the rules for static and touring caravans will often differ accordingly). Some won’t insure particularly expensive electronic items while others won’t insure jewellery, and in some cases your possessions will already be covered by your home contents insurance. Given the variations it’s important to do your research and check the small print, so you can make sure what type of cover you’re actually getting.
As a general rule, most companies will offer contents or personal effects insurance as an addition to your current caravan insurance policy. It’s important that you get a proper valuation of any items on board to make sure you get the necessary cover, and never underestimate (or indeed overestimate) the value of anything if you want to be confident that everything is under control. Again, make sure to do your research and see exactly what each policy involves – some will only offer accidental damage whereas others will replace any items should they be lost or stolen – and make your decision based on your needs, your budget and your preferences.
As you can see, caravan contents insurance is definitely worth thinking about. You should never assume that it comes as standard because most policies won’t automatically include this level of cover, but if you get this as an additional policy and remember to check the small print you can be confident that your possessions are properly protected no matter where you are.
