Caravan Contents Insurance
MostĀ forms of caravan cover come with some form of caravan contents insurance. This ensures that if the worst happens and you lose the contents of your caravan, your insurance company should payout. The contents would usually be insured against fire, theft and loss by vandalism. There can be some limitations on what you can and cannot include in the contents so this should be checked in the small print before taking out any cover.
Insurance companies will sometimes offer you the chance of taking contents insurance in the form of new for old, where you would get brand new replacements for your contents or a policy that takes depreciation into account. Usually you would expect to pay more for a policy that paid out new for old.
You may need to check if items of particular expense would be included in the cover. These could include such items such as TV, DVD or satellite equipment. Items that are generally included in the majority of policies would be items such as your linen, clothing, utensils, personal items, gas bottles, contents of fridge and awning. However you would need to read the small print to find out exactly what was and was not protected.
You can make an inventory to reach an amount to insure when taking out caravan contents insurance. The best way to do this is to take a pen and piece of paper and walk around your caravan and jot down the cost of any items in the caravan that falls under the terms of the policy. The amount that you come to would be the amount that you would choose to insure. This is the maximum amount of money that you would be able to get back for the contents if the worst came to the worst and you were to lose the entire contents of your caravan.
