How to cut down the cost of your tourer insurance
Insurance for your touring caravan may provide you with great peace of mind and security. For instance, if you were to have an accident or your caravan was damaged, destroyed or even stolen you are typically able to claim on the policy and recoup your loss. There are many ways you may be able to reduce the cost of your tourer insurance and here are some of the more common ways.
- Boost the security of your caravan – One of the main factors taken into account by insurance providers is how secure your caravan is. Hundreds of touring caravans are stolen each year in the UK with some models being more at risk than others are. If you install a hitchlock, it may help to prevent thieves unhitching your caravan from your car. You may also want to consider alarm systems, a tracking device, wheel lock or an immobiliser to help keep your caravan more secure.
- Buy a UK model of caravan – If you buy an imported model of caravan then it may be harder to insure than one bought in the UK. German models for instance are often higher on the list for thieves who steal them to order. As a result, you may find it hard to get insurance or your premiums may be a great deal more than those of a caravan manufactured in the UK.
- Make yourself a member of a caravan club – Members of motoring organisations or clubs may be offered reductions on their insurance. With this in mind you may want to consider joining a regional or national caravanning club to help keep the premiums on your insurance lower.
- New for old or depreciation – If you take out tourer insurance which provides a brand new caravan in the event of yours being stolen or destroyed it may work out dearer than if you take cover that takes wear into account. If saving money on the premiums is imperative and you have an older model of caravan you may wish to purchase protection which takes depreciation into account.
