Buying Insurance for Park Homes

When considering park home insurance you may wish to consider new for old cover. This means that items would be replaced brand new if they were damaged or stolen. However as with any insurance cover there would be limitations so this would have to be checked before you take out a policy. Some items could be excluded from the policy such as jewellery which is considered to be expensive and electrical equipment such as cameras and camcorders. Also ask if the policy would cover such items as the contents of your freezer and if money left in the home would be protected if stolen? The policy may or may not include legal expenses protection up to a certain amount. These limitations would depend on the insurance provider you choose to take your cover with.

You should also check if accidental damage is included in the policy cover, especially important if you intend to rent out your park home. It could also be a useful addition even if you only use the park home as your own home away from home. There will be, depending upon insurance company, exclusions and limitations as to what was included in accidental damage cover which you would need to check in the small print before taking a policy out.

Make sure you ask if the policy would pay out for alternative accommodation if your park home were to be unliveable due to fire or other damage which might include storm and flood damage. There could be a limit on the amount of days that the policy would cover accommodation costs so again check in the terms of the cover before making your choice of insurer as this can vary considerably.

Of course there are ways that you could help yourself make savings on your insurance. One of the most obvious ways is to offer to pay out more in excess than what the minimum the provider asks for. All insurance policies will usually come with a minimum amount of excess that you would have to pay out before the insurance company will take over the rest of the claim. If you offer to pay more in excess you could make some savings on your premium. You could also install security devices on your park home and this could also help to keep down the cost of your park home insurance. While it would cost initially to install good quality door locks, window locks and an alarm system you could recoup the costs over a couple of years with the savings you would make on your insurance. Other factors such as postcode location are usually taken into consideration when getting a quote.
