Static Caravan Maintenance
Your static caravan is your pride and joy. It’s a home away from home; somewhere that you can escape to whenever the feeling hits. So don’t you want to keep it safe and in the best condition possible? Of course you do, and if you follow these static caravan maintenance tips you’ll be well on your way to achieving that.
1. Keep it safely locked up when you’re not there. You wouldn’t dream of leaving your doors and windows unlocked when you left your home, so why would you consider doing the same with your caravan? Double-check every door and window before you leave, and invest in the necessary security devices for added peace of mind.
2. Check the gas and electrics on a regular basis. Just like in the home, any gas or electric appliances need to be tested regularly to ensure there aren’t any safety issues. This is especially important if you haven’t been there for some time – you need to make sure that no damage/deterioration occurred to any systems, pipes or wires while you were away. And, of course, make sure to turn off your gas supply when you’re not there.
3. Clean your gutters regularly to avoid any build-up of moss, leaves and any other debris. If your gutters were to become blocked then rain water couldn’t wash away, and if it persists you’d be likely to suffer from problems with damp. It might be worth returning during the autumn/winter season to make sure that everything is as it should be.
4. Fully drain the water and sewage system before you leave it for the winter, and make sure to flush everything through when you return.
5. After a period of non-use, make sure to check the chassis for any signs of damage, damp or corrosion. Clean and repaint as necessary, and thoroughly clean the inside before you store it away too. Set moisture traps to prevent damp.
These are just a few ways that you can ensure your static caravan maintenance regime is under control, and you can look forward to keeping it in tip-top condition throughout the year.
