Static Caravan Security
Static Caravans are very popular, providing the ‘home from home’ feel at an affordable price, and the industry is still growing. If you own or are thinking of buying a Static Caravan there are some important security questions to consider and a few tips you should follow in order to make the day to day security of owning a Static Caravan as effective as possible.
Window, Doors, Alarms and Safety
Because Static Caravans are often placed on sites far from your home and remain unoccupied for a majority of the year, making sure that all the potential entrances to your home are secure and that any unauthorised intruder is detected or preferably deterred before entering is important. Most new, modern Static Homes come equipped with the kind of window and door locks that you will find in your own home, but these can only be effective if they are used. Leaving your Caravan unlocked whilst in use with all of your precious possessions on show, even for a brief period, is an open invitation to a casual thief. When you are away from your Static Home, having an intruder alarm fitted will hopefully dissuade theft attempts and make sure that if a break-in does occur the proper authorities are alerted. There are many different alarms available with different levels of protection, and it is usually the amount you are willing to pay that dictates the alarm system you choose. For your own personal safety many new Static Caravans come equipped with fire and CO2 alarms, and ‘Escape Windows’ so that you and your family can quickly and safely leave your Caravan in the event of an emergency.
Site Security
Making sure that your Static Caravan is moored in a secure, safe location with some kind of screening to ensure that only guests are allowed near your Caravan is sensible. Bear in mind that some sites are not open all year round, closing for one or two months in the slowest seasons, which may affect the effectiveness of any security they offer, your siting choice and the premium you pay for your static caravan insurance. With some new Caravans being sold with LCD TVs and other expensive electrical equipment already installed and consequently stored in your Static Caravan at all times their security during your periods of absence should be paramount.
Ground Anchors, Leg locks and Corner Steadies
If you are concerned about the way in which your Static Caravan is being moored in the site that it is placed in, or if you are looking to secure your Static Caravan on your own land or any location outside of Caravanning sites then you might consider using a ground anchor. Sunk into a fixed point in the ground and then attached to your Caravan, a ground anchor will prevent theft or movement. If you are equally concerned that the integrity of your Static Caravan’s Corner Steadies is not corruptible then purchasing a leg locking device to secure them in place is an option in the modern market.
