Caravan insurance should always be an essential consideration for both touring and static caravans, with the type of considerations necessary being slightly different for each. Static caravans are subject to different risks than touring caravans, and as such the static insurance should differ accordingly.
Unlike touring caravans, static vans are going to be more susceptible to geographical and natural threats such as falling trees or flooding. This is because they’re often a permanent fixture on campsites, and if they’re only used as holiday home it won’t be so easy to keep an eye on them or to move them if a threat presents itself. The static insurance policy has to be prepared for claims such as these, and needs to be fully-comprehensive if you want to make sure that your static caravan is fully protected.
Static insurance should also cover things such as frost damage, as if the caravan is going to be on-site over winter the water or heating installations could become damaged if they’re allowed to freeze. Accidental damage should be included too, both for the caravan itself and for the equipment within it, as static caravans are likely to carry higher-priced items (such as computers, TVs, audio equipment) which may not be quite so common in touring caravans.
Of course, it’s still subject to more general risks such as theft or damage, and any static insurance policy should include everything. The possessions or any extra equipment in the caravan itself will need to be insured, and although this will sometimes be covered by your home insurance policy it’s always going to be worth checking.
These are just a few risks you need to be aware of when you get your static insurance, and remember that you’ll need to include slightly different things in your policy than if you were insuring a touring caravan. As long as you’re prepared and get the right insurance, you can be safe in the knowledge that your static caravan is fully protected from anything that could happen to it.
