Static Insurance Online

Having your own holiday home on a site is a great idea. You can return to it time and time again and it is just like a home from home. Just as you would insure your home you should also consider taking out static insurance for your caravan. After all there are many things that could go wrong, fire, theft and the elements all have to be taken into account. As you will not be living in it year round there will be many months it will stand empty for part of the year and this could mean it would be vulnerable to thieves.

One of the many ways that you can keep down the cost of static insurance is to improve the security of the caravan. Installing good strong security locks on the doors and windows and installing an alarm system can all help to keep down the cost of your insurance premiums. If you make it harder for thieves to break into the caravan while you are not living in it, the insurance company will usually take this into account when deciding the cost of protection.

When considering taking out insurance always check to see what is included in the policy. This means reading the terms and conditions of the cover from back to front. Insurance providers will always state a limit on how much you can claim for any one item. This means that if you leave items of particular expense in the caravan you would want to ensure that they would be covered in the policy. Always check to make sure that damage to the caravan by the elements is covered.

This could include damage to the caravan due to falling branches in stormy weather or for flood damage. Sometimes flood damage has to be included in the policy for a little extra if you want it, so it is well worth checking for this if your caravan is sited near lakes or rivers.

Always check the amount of excess that the provider will ask you to pay. This is the sum of money that you would have to find before the provider would payout the rest. There is always some excess stated in the terms of the cover and this can differ with each insurance company. If you want to save money on the monthly premiums for insurance then you could raise the amount of excess. By doing so you would usually get cheaper monthly premiums for the insurance but you have to remember that you would have to pay a lump sum if you made a claim.

Also check static insurance for what the policy would pay out – eg “new for old” which means that if your caravan should suffer damage beyond repair and the caravan is relatively new you would get a new replacement. This information would be found in the terms and conditions but there would usually be some exclusions such as the caravan must not be over a certain age. New for old would usually also refer to any items that were stolen or damaged as the result of fire or theft, so again check for this in the terms of the policy.
