Static Insurance Risks

There are many risks that could need to be considered when thinking of static insurance. There are also many different features that may be included in your policy, some which you might not consider essential and others which you would not want to be without. Here we take a look at some of the biggest risks and threats you may want to ensure were included in your caravan insurance.

One of the biggest risks to your static caravan would be the amount of time it was vacant. Many caravan owners only use their caravan during the summer months which means that 6 months out of the year the caravan would remain empty. There would be the risk of theft, vandalism, storm damage and fire during these times so you may wish to ensure that you had full cover against any of these events.

Check what coverage you are given for replacements and what exclusions there are in the policy. For example:

  • would your cover payout for theft or damage to TV, video or DVD recorders?
  • would the policy payout for accidental damage or would you need to take out extra insurance?
  • would such things as awnings, steps, patio or verandas be covered in your standard static caravan insurance policy?

If not it could be worth shopping around for cover that did include such things.

If you rent out your static caravan then you may want cover for loss of rental income - ask your Insurer. If for example your caravan was to be flooded or damaged by storm or was in any way damaged badly enough that it had to be towed away for repair then you could lose out on a great deal of money in lost income. If the policy covered rental income you could be eligible to make a claim against the policy.
