Hobby Caravan Insurance Difficulties

Your hobby caravan will be your pride and joy, so it makes sense that you want to insure it to protect your much-loved (and incredibly valuable) asset. But, there are often numerous hobby caravan insurance difficulties that you could come across, so make sure you know what you’re up against before you make that purchase.

First up, hobby caravans are usually imported. This means that finding any replacement parts can be a very expensive undertaking, and many insurance companies will shy away from such vehicles because of it. They can also be incredibly high spec, meaning that insurers will have to spend far more on any replacement fixtures and fittings if the worst were to happen.

The prestigious reputation of hobby caravans and the fact that they’re so well made also make them incredibly attractive to thieves. They often target this particular make of caravan because they’re so sought after, and because of that a lot of insurance companies will deem these models to be a much higher insurance risk.

Unfortunately, this all adds up to the reduced likelihood of being able to insure your hobby caravan. The potential costs and implications to an insurance company will often be far too high for them to even consider insuring it, and even if they do you could well see quite high premiums. But, there are ways around it.

If you approach a specialist caravan insurer you could well have more luck than if you went with a regular insurance provider. You might have to consider things such as voluntary excess and adding special immobiliser or security devices to your vehicle, but hopefully you’d have considered this anyway. It’s also a good idea to join specialist hobby caravan clubs, as they’ll be able to give you plenty of advice on how to approach the right insurers.

So, although there are numerous difficulties involved in getting hobby caravan insurance, there are things that you can do to make the process easier. Don’t be put off and always get sufficient cover in place, and you can enjoy your hobby caravan for years to come.
