The cheapest motorhome insurance may cost you money
Making savings on the insurance for your motorhome may not be just as simple as buying the cheapest motorhome insurance you can find.
Choose carefully
When it comes to insurance, what you may need to be careful about is that typically the old adage that you get what you pay for, is actually true.
There’s nothing basically wrong in trying to save money and to do without unnecessary frills. The trick is to identify the things you can realistically do without and those that you can’t.
So, for example, if you never take your motorhome out of the country then a policy, which doesn’t include foreign travel cover (ie continental cover) may be suitable for you. If you find out that your policy doesn’t cover foreign travel only when you actually have an accident while in France, then it could end up costing you quite a bit more than the supposed savings.
Similarly, if you only use your motorhome a couple of times a year for relatively short trips then a low mileage policy may be just what you need.
No need to compromise
Nobody wants to pay more for insurance than they absolutely need to. The good news is that keeping the costs down doesn’t necessarily mean compromising on levels of cover.
For example, some motorhome insurance providers may offer discounts in certain circumstances, which may prove to be relevant to you.
Common examples of this may include:
- membership of a recognised motorhome owners club;
- fitting out your motorhome with a tracking device;
- installing a security alarm to deter thieves;
- parking your motorhome off road in you driveway or garage;
- offering a higher excess in return for lower premiums.
